9 Pregnant ladies fallacy

A good colleague of mine,  Krzysztof Mejka, shared this quip about the Project Management Triangle:

9 pregnant women won't deliver a baby in a month

— Krzysztof Mejka

It talks to the cost element of the triangle. If you don't know what the triangle is John Ruskin is attributed in saying:

Good, fast, cheap. Choose two.

— John Ruskin

The cost part in software design is usually tied to people; more people = more costs. But we know the equation doesn't work out in practice. Often, you can't just chuck more money at a problem to make it better or go faster, particularly go faster. Often the money (or the people) take too long to bring a net benefit and in reality we see a converse effect where more people can actually slow down a project delivery or reduce the quality as these folks take time to ramp up.
